HP w2338h Monitor - Will it Work with mid 2010 MacBook Pro running OS 10.13.4 High Sierra?

I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro (15") and trying to get an HP w2338h monitor to work with it via a Mini Display Port to VGA Adapter. I can get the HP monitor to open, show the Macs desktop and have set it up to mirror in System Preferences. However, after being on for about 2 minutes, it will start "humming" and then the screen will go blank and "put into sleep mode".

What can I do to keep the HP monitor on and working? I have even tried using the trial version of SwitchResX to see if it will keep the HP up and running, but I get the same result,.... humming and then a blank screen.

Can anyone help me or tell me what to do? I have gone into the "arrangement" section and done several different arrangements, but still no luck. I am beginning to become quite frustrated and just want to know of the HP monitor will work with my macbook pro.

ANY help would be gratefully appreciated!!!
