iPhone XS: How to Permanently Show Battery %?

Just upgraded to a new iPhone and running into a major issue- I can't easily get to the battery level. There has to be a way to do this. The battery indicator icon is 100% useless. I know you can drag down from the control center, but it's really obnoxious to have to do this. What level the battery is at is probably the most important piece of information to give me when I tap my phone, and right now I can't seem to find a way to do that easily. Having to drag the control panel open shouldn't be necessary.

The indicator simply doesn't provide enough information and is usually wildly inaccurate- i.e., right now my battery is at 30% but the indicator icon is about 2/3 full. How do I get the % to show permanently so I don't have to drag from the control panel? This is really annoying and potentially dangerous if I end up somewhere where I'm depending on maps to get me around and my phone dies because the battery indicator icon is useless.

Please help me get my % back on the home screen!

It is not possible to display battery percent on a home screen of an iPhone XS.

You may either see it in Control Center as you indicated, or by swiping the home screen from left to right and viewing it there in the batteries widget.

The iPhone XS home screen cannot afford the real estate for such a thing.

My indicator works just fine ... but the difference is my iPhone XS is recharged to 100% every night, and typically hovers around 80% and pretty much never falls below 50% charge.

Why isn't this there an option to switch between the indicator and a % icon? The indicator icon is horrible (completely useless). Having to swipe from the control center works, but it's annoying to have to do this to find out something as fundamental as how charged the phone is.

Showing the % would take up less space than the current icon if you simply swapped them out, as the current icon does nothing other than take up space and provide you with false information. There should be an option to switch between the two. We will see how the battery holds up, so far it's not been good. Mine started out from the box at 70% charge and lost 40% charge down to 30% after less than an hour of safari usage, cloud syncing from my old phone, and iOS updates. So far it seems like the battery will only last about 2 and a half hours between charges. We'll see how it goes with more normal usage going forward.

But it still would be nice to know how much charge the phone actually has from the main screen. Simply showing the % instead of the currently useless icon would be a dramatic improvement.
