According to some Twitter users, there are reported Apple iOS 12.1.2 update problems that could reportedly affect your cellular data service. Because this issue manifests itself when your iPhone with iOS 12.1.2 is connected to a carrier’s LTE network, limiting the device to use LTE for data but not voice should fix this for you.

1) Open the Settings app.

2) Tap Cellular or Mobile Data.

3) Be sure that the Cellular Data toggle has been switched to the ON position.

4) Tap Wi-Fi Calling, then disable the feature.

5) Go back, then choose Cellular Data options from the list.

6) Tap Enable 4G, then choose the option labeled Data Only.

I was able to finally get mine to an Apple Authorized Service Center. At first they thought it had "fixed" itself because it started working while they looked at it, but later in the day it failed again, and permanently this time. They determined it to be a HW issue and are servicing it under the Apple repair program (currently free of charge).

The repairs are supposed to be free within 3 years of original purchase. This is only for the iPhone 7 though, and only ones bought in specific countries. I'll post back the final outcome once I have received the phone back.

Note: My phone is out of the standard warranty. (2 year 4 months)

NOTE: You may need to restart your iPhone for the changes to take effect.

Doing so will force your iPhone onto 3G and older 4G networks. This should help resolve the issues in many cases but it may and probably won’t work for all the affected customers. After Apple issued a fix, remember to revisit the aforementioned settings and re-enable the Wi-Fi Calling feature and turn on Voice and Data for 4G networks.

This is just a temporary solution and as such isn’t perfect.

For instance, you may be unable to make voice calls over Wi-Fi networks (if Wi-Fi Calling is enabled) and regular phone calls over a carrier’s cellular network will not use VoLTE, meaning phone calls will take a few seconds to connect and they won’t sound as crisp as with VoLTE.

On the plus side, you’ll be able to use SMS/MMS messaging services without disruption, iMessage and all the apps that use cellular data will work perfectly and you will have no issues making or receiving phone calls (aside from lower audio quality).

Well I contacted my carrier to no avail from them, so I contacted Apple support and explained since the update iOS 12.1.2 I have had no service. Told her I had already went thru the steps given by other Apple agent ( update and restore) (turn off cellular data and back on) (put in air plane mode then power off and remove sim then replace sim and power back up) every step I had tried didn’t work. So she ask a few questions, like IMEI number and my iCloud account and from there she said she’ll send me a fedex express box to send my phone to them for them to do diagnosis on and repair it. I received it the following day around 1pm and sent my phone in by 3pm. They received it the same day and by the next day had already issued me a replacement phone at no charge to me and I received it by 5pm that evening, because the issues weren’t able to be repaired. The phone was in excellent condition so it was the operating system causing the issue they explained in a letter sent with the new device. When I received the new device I simply unpackaged it, inserted my sim and activated phone and have had no issues at all. I am very pleased at the steps that were taken and how quickly I received help. I will give you the Apple advisor I spoke to, who got it done for me so quickly and courteously, her name is Rosie and her number is 1-877-416-427 ext# 1145991

She was wonderful and called the following day to make sure I received the new device and everything was in working order. :)

I wish you luck, I wish I had spoken to Rosie weeks ago...

I currently have service, although it’s roaming half the day .. I put phone in airplane mode for 15 seconds (counted to the second) then powered off took out sim then replaced sim after 30 seconds (counted to the second) and I have service, not all the time but half the time . Straight talk won’t send me another sim and Apple says they don’t know what’s causing it ... so there ya go.., I think I need to get a different phone( not an iPhone)!!!

You should roll Back to the iOS 12.1.1 , which is something I’m trying to figure out how to do, until a newer stabled version of 12.2.1 is out. The iOS update enabled service for T-Mobile & Verizon carriers. AT&T and sprint works though so .. In the mean time if you want to switch your carrier to those two you can, it supports the update.

I was told you can not roll back or revert to an older iOS once updated. However, I will say that Apple responded to my pleas for help and are having me ship my device to them so they can repair it, if it cannot be respaired they have offered to replace it... my phone is still covered under a limited warranty. The Apple advisor was very helpful, she walked me thru so many steps to try but nothing worked, as did my carrier... so this seemed to be my only option. Unfortunately I was not ever able to get my phone working after the iOS 12.1.2 update, but I am so grateful they are going the lengths they are to get my phone in working order or replace it.. so good luck with your phones, please share if you do find a solution so I’ll know in the future or so someone else will know. :-)

I had the same problem on my XR and tried everything possible :

  • Reset network settings
  • erase phone
  • configure new iPhone
  • install iOS 12.1.3 beta 1 then beta 2...
  • install iOS 12.1.1 and configure new iphone

nothing worked !

the only solution apple gave me was to replace my phone and now it’s ok but now I’m scared updating it.

Does the final iOS 12.1.3 resolved your issue ?
