Apple AirPods won’t connect to Samsung Smart Tv

I recently got the apple AirPods and attempted to connect them to my tv however it’s not recognising them. My tv definitely has Bluetooth options as I’ve previously had my beats on there and other headsets. I’ve seen other posts that suggest to just keep holding onto the pairing button on the charging case until it turns orange and shows up however this hasn’t worked.
