Syncing an old iPod to a new one

I am trying to sync my old iTunes music from an old iPod to iTunes then sync my new iPod to iTunes. When i try to sync the old iPod to iTunes a lot of my music doesn’t transfer. I have tried everything i can think of and now i may have accidentally erased all the music from my old iPod is there a way to recover that music as well?
