problem connecting WD mybook live Duo

I'm setting up a new MacBook Air to replace my 2006 MacBook and my wife's 2008 one. Storage wise I won't have enough space onboard for iTunes and photos so I'm planning to share them between users from a 4TB network drive.

So now I have that connected to the network, and I can see it in Finder. When I attempt to connect to it as a registered user (to enable time machine etc) I am prompted to enter a name and password for the server. It isn't clear to me whether this is my admin name and password (ie to verify to the computer that this action is authorised) or if it is an access code which is specific to the hard drive.

My admin password is not accepted (the dialog box wobbles). However, I had trouble running the setup app from the WD site so I don't have a way to interrogate the drive to find out it's settings.

I have a feeling I'm missing something very basic. Any ideas?

Yes, by default the My book will only have the Admin user, the username and password is admin/admin, you can change the password from the dashboard but if you forget it you can always press the reset button on your My Book to put it back to the default password without deleting any of your files.
