iTunes Will Not Sync with Iphone XS Max

Hello,

I am writing in because I am having trouble syncing my iPhone X Max to iTunes for some odd reason. Below are a few specs for the devices in question. The issue is I cannot get the phone to sync via wireless network or plugged into the laptop.Am i missing something that is keeping it from synching.

• IPhone XS Max
• OS X El Capitan - Version 10.11.6
• Wireless is on the same network and Bluetooth is connected
• MacBook Pro (older model)
