iPad typing in Chinese characters despite settings set to English

Had a problem with my new 6th gen ipad and wanted to share with the group just in case anyone else ran into this issue. In setting up the iPad, I selected everything English, but while downloading and using applications on it, the output of the keyboard switched to Chinese for no apparent reason.

After looking at the settings and realizing everything was still set to English, I searched online for a solution and found an article where someone was experiencing something similar but in the address field of the browser window. I wasn't satisfied with the answer as it said to turn everything off and restart. That was NOT the problem i was facing because the typing issue trancended just the Safari browser and was effecting every application.

I EVENTUALLY realized that on the digital keyboard there is this little globe icon (normally where the emoji icon would be on the iphone). I must have inadvertently pressed it because I was able to get back to the normal English keyboard by pressing (e.g. toggling) it back to English. This small little annoyance took WAY to long to figure out, hence me writing this post.

Hopefully it'll come in useful when someone does the same thing.

I eventually selected something like "use previous keyboard" or a similar thing and it got me back. Hoping a software update will make it less easy to make seemingly catistrophic mistakes (rendering the keyboard useless across all apps for English writing/speaking folks) by gracefully hiding some of the more advanced features or at least having a master control in the settings.

Anyway, thanks for listening...

To have control of your keyboard options, go to Settings > General > Keyboard
