After Mojave upgrade can't pair PS4 controller

Before Mojave I'd use my PS4 controller just fine, hit the PS button and enjoy. Now even resetting the controller and trying to pair (connect) again it won't work, it always show an exclamation mark and 'Connection Failed' after a long spinner

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I was holding back to try this solution: https://christopher-parsons.com/solved-bluetooth-devices-not-connecting-to-osx/

But this is what got the job done, my controller works just fine now.

Thanks for all those who replied.

Hi leandro113,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you’re having trouble connecting a bluetooth device. I’m happy to provide some steps that may help.

To start, I suggest removing and then reconnecting the controller. You can remove it by clicking your Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Bluetooth. Hover the pointer over the device you want to remove, then click the “x” button that appears next to the device's name.

You can find steps for reconnecting here:

Connect a Bluetooth device with your Mac - Apple Support

Should that not help, I suggest trying in a different user account:

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac - Apple Support

Let me know if that helps.

Take care.

As the title of my post says, it doesn't work after Mojave upgrade, clearly is something Apple did... Please give me meanings to debug this issue at least as it is clear you won't support me any longer. Where do I find logs to understand what is going on and try to fix it on my own.

I'm very upset with Mojave upgrade, caused many issues for me I wish it was easy to downgrade but that is not an option at this point.

Hi @Allen,

"To start, I suggest removing and then reconnecting the controller", I've tried this a hundred times, won't work.

"You can remove it by clicking your Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Bluetooth...", not really, it never stays on the list of know devices.

"You can find steps for reconnecting here", this is what I've been trying with no success.

"Should that not help, I suggest trying in a different user account", still exactly the same problem.

Other ideas?

FWIW, Macs and its OS were never intended to support PS4 controllers. It happens that you could get them to work after a fashion. However, see if this article helps…

It's actually very easy to downgrade from Mojave if you had a Time Machine or other backup. Which of course I aassume you have.
