Update from yosemite to el captain

Hello All,

I have a macbook Pro retina mid 2014 running the same OS it came with, the Yosemite 10.10.5.

I'd like very much to play Cuphead (!), but it requires 10.11 or above (probably because of the Metal API right?)

Question is: can I update from 10.10.5 to El Captain (10.11) nowadays? This is because I don't want to upgrade further and risk my system starting to run slower.

I found this app store link: https://itunes.apple.com/br/app/os-x-el-capitan/id1147835434?l=en&mt=12 to get El Captain, but it tells me this version of 10.11 cant be installed on my computer.

I see, Mojave is the only option the appstore allows me to install, but I refuse to believe there is no way around this, I just want to be able to update to some version that wont make my computer obsolete.

All in all, first and last mac based computer I'll be owning, many good perks in it, but Im not for the many constraints it poses for the way I want to use it

Your Mac can upgrade to Mojave, that is the macOS requires a Metal capable graphics card.

If you do not want to upgrade to Mojave, Sierra and High Sierra are available for you to install.

As mentioned previously El Capitan is still available for Macs that cannot upgrade to Sierra and beyond, so if the App Store recognises that your Mac can upgrade beyond El Capitan you will be refused it. One way to get round this is to move to another Mac you can use that can not upgrade beyond El Capitan, login with the AppleID you use on your Mac

How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support once the download has completed, and before the Installation procedure starts (quit it if it does) make a copy of the Install OS X El Capitan.app it will be in the Applications folder of the donor Mac. now move that copy over to your Mac. Double click to start the installation.
