How to turn off autocomplete in Apple Mail OR remove suggested address and let me type a new one not in my address book?

Whenever I try to type in a new email address that I have not previously used/ that is not stored in my address book autocomplete will always replace it with a pre-existing email when I press the spacebar.

Is there a way to force Mail to not replace the new email address without permanently removing other suggested emails as suggested in previous answers to this problem as those email addresses belong to other people.

TL;DR: How can I force mail to manually let me type in a new email address without it being replaced, and without me having to save the email as a new contact first?
