Deactivating a phone number from iMessage and FaceTime when you no longer have access to the number

My wife recently took out a SIM only contract with a new provider, due to the porting process the new SIM phone number was associated with her account (found through Siri according to the iPhone) for several days. After the SIM was ported to the new number we had to manually change her number under Apple ID but this still does not update the iMessage and FaceTime mobile number - so in attempting to remove the temporary number the process on the iPhone requires you to deactivate the number by it sending a message to the number you no longer want associated... so if we don't have the old number to receive the authentication code to remove it... how do we handle this?

A riddle wrapped inside an enigma.....

Please help...

Hey Coatesy_82,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. I understand you want to deregister a number that is associated with iMessage for an iPhone you no longer use. I'd be glad to point you in the right direction for help with this. Take a look at the following resource to learn how. Deregister iMessage on your iPhone or online

Add or remove your phone number in Messages or FaceTime

Remove your phone number
If you don't want calls or messages for your iPhone on your iPad, iPod touch, or Mac, you can remove your phone number. There are two ways to do this:
On your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Select your Apple ID and tap Sign Out. Then go to Settings > FaceTime, select your Apple ID and tap Sign Out.
If the phone number that you want to remove belongs to an iPhone that you can't access, change your Apple ID password. This removes all phone numbers from your iPad, iPod touch, and Mac. Calls or messages for the removed numbers won't appear on those devices anymore.

Cheers.
