I am looking for a simple to use database for my MacBook Pro. I was used to the WONDERFUL (easy to set up)database that came with Microsoft Works Suite years ago when I was using a PC but have not found what I want for my Mac. Any ideas?

I wish someone could suggest a database for my MacBook Pro that is easy to set up and use. Years ago when I was using a PC there was a Microsoft Works Suite disc that included a terrific database that could be set up so easily and was a dream to use. This is just for personal home use like lists of books, addresses, greeting card lists, etc. Excel is way more complicated than I need. Would appreciate suggestions. Thanks!

If LibreOffice Base is more than you need perhaps you don't need a database. Their database is very basic. Please explain what you need the database for. I don't know of any more simple databases.

LibreOffice has been around as a free replacement for Microsoft Office for many years. It works very well, is supported, and is used by many.

You could use MySql, MariaDB, MongoDB, etc. all open source but I don't think this is what you are looking for.

I had planned to use a database for a simple Christmas card list eg. Name - Address - Sent- Received-

OR

Book list:

Title - Author - Date read - Subject

Those are 2 examples. It's quite simple stuff so don't need anything too involved. Maybe I should just stick to Excel???? I can make that work for me. Thank you for the help. I am new to this Apple Communities idea and so far finding it helpful.

We used the database feature in Microsoft works for mailing lists for years. When it was no longer available we were able to import those same files into Excel or Numbers, and did not miss a beat.

Excel seems quite vast in the entire set of what it can do, but there is no reason why you need to use all. The simple familiar spreadsheet setup is all we ever needed for addresses. LibreOffice is a good free work-alike, highly recommended. You could also transition to Numbers very easily.
