icloud for windows 10 not syncing

I have a new work PC. I have everything in iCloud drive and want access to it via iCloud for windows. Downloaded and installed the software as directed, but it isn't working. All the proper icons are there, but when I click to open the icloud drive window it says there are no documents in the folder when there ought to be thousands. When I click the little cloud on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, it says iCloud Drive intializing, many thousands of documents pending. The number of documents pending will increase to 80,000 or more without any of them showing up in the icloud drive window (and, while I have a lot of documents in the iCloud Drive, I don't think I've got 80,000 + in there). Every time the computer goes to sleep, the initializing count goes back to zero. What gives?
