Apple ID Services Mobile Data Usage

Hi everyone,

Can anyone (maybe from Apple) tell us what kind of mobile data traffic is included under "Apple ID Services" and if possible, how to limit it?

I have a contract with a limited amount of data to use each month. More than half of it is used by Apple ID Services. I don't know what kind of data is transferred and whether or not if it is useful at all. I would like to disable that or at least get a good reason why I should find that acceptable.

See the following screenshots. I have reached 3,3 GB up to now for this month. 1,8 GB of which went to Apple ID Services.

The mobile data usage policy in iOS is completely crazy right now. On the one side, iOS won't let me download an App that is more than 150 MB over mobile even if I want to. Presumably because 150 MB is too much. And on the other side, it transfers 1,8 GB of unknown data on mobile in the background without asking for my permission and without letting me disable it. This is infuriating.

Configuration:

Hardware: iPhone X

Software: iOS 12.1.2

Network Provider: Vodafone in Germany

Note that Wi-Fi Assit and iCloud Drive are turned off in the Mobile Data Settings.

Any help most welcome.

Best Regards,

Will
