Time Capsule - Need more storage - Already plugged one external hard drive

Hi Guys,

I got a 2tb TC and added one more 2tb external storage. However, being a photographer I need more storage. TC has only 1 usb port. Is there a way I can add more HDD's?

Will a usb hub work in this case?

Thanks

Self-powered drives larger than 2TB tend to be SMR types (high compression) and should not be used.

They are also a lot less reliable cf the big heavy powered drives as you call them.

I somehow dont like power ones. they are quite heavy

As intended to make them larger capacity and reliable and fast.

You cannot have your cake and eat it.

You cannot plug more than one self powered drive into a TC without a powered hub... in fact even one can cause power issues as the USB2 port is underpowered.

If you then try and plug multiple drives into it.. I can only wish you lots of luck.

Of course you could use multiple 2TB SSD drives.. as long as you have very deep pockets.

A proper NAS would be considerably cheaper.

You can use USB hub.. but it adds another layer of problems and issues.

A much larger drive would be a lot better solution. It is easy to buy USB drives (powered of course) in sizes up to 8TB or even more.. but avoid Seagate archive drives.. as they do give more problems.

Is your 2TB self-powered type?

No offence intended but is this backup or are you actually using it as NAS..

I would definitely encourage real NAS like synology which has proper built in backup if you want a file server.
