iphone text to speach not faithfully working

I have an iphone 8 plus with ios 12.1.2 . I like to walk with my iphone in my pocket and listen to Kindle books using the 'Text to Speach' under General, Accessibility, Speak Selection, option. When I try to select the text I press on the Kindle screen but do not get an option to 'select all'. If I try to expand the 'handles' and select multiple pages the screen becomes difficult to manage. If I do finally select the text I only get a 'translate' or 'highlight', 'send' or copy selection. Occasionly I can get the translate to actually speak for me. Unfortunatley I am only able to do one, two, or three pages ath the most. I want to read the book.

If I use the 'Text to Speach' under General, Accessibility, Speak Screen, and then swipe down with two fingers it only reads a page and then stops.

If I use VoiceOver (General, Accessibility, VoiceOver the control of everything becomes totally confusing to me. I have sworn to never turn that option on. Don't do it!

I have tried third party software but none seems to work for me. I switched from Android to IOS a year ago partly for reason I heard I could read Kindle books with Text to speech but so far it has not been a good experience. Can anyone give me some help on how to read Kindle books with the functionality in IOS?

I am not apposed to adding/buying an app if it is necessary for faithful text to speech.

Ok this morning I turned off both options in text to speech area ( select and speak and swipe down) and turnned back on. I brought up Kindle and tried to select text and then have it play but no good. I then took tired the two finger swipe on the Kindle book and it took off reading for twenty minutes reading until I stopped it. All this time the screen was unlocked and the phone was on the table showing text and page flips correctly.

I locked the phone and the 'text to speech' stopped when it reached the bottom of the page!

So apparently my problem is that the 'two finger swipe down text to speech' does not work after the phone reaches the bottom of the page. Since I lock my phone when I put it in my pocket to walk it does not function as I desire it to work. I will see if I can leave the phone unlocked as I walk.

Today I tried the swiping down with two fingers on a Kindle book and did not lock the phone but put it in my pocket. It seemed to work pretty good like this for 30 to 45 minutes flipping pages and converting the Kindle text to audible output. This is progress and works sufficiently well.

I still have the problem of text to speech now working after I lock my phone and it gets to the bottom of the page. Also if I try to select the text with the 'handles' I do not get a 'speak' option as the option is expained in the text next to it.
