conneting apple cinema display

How do I connect an apple cinema display 2011(thunderbolt 2) to iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017(USB-C)?

The apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter does not work.

Is the display Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort? The Thunderbolt display has only one plug to connect to the computer. If there is also a USB plug, then the display is Mini DisplayPort. The connectors are similar, but the Thunderbolt connect has a lightning bolt icon.


The Thunderbolt display should work with the Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 adapter.


The Mini DisplayPort display will require a USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapter, such as:
