Greetings, migazza.
I see that you're experiencing an issue with the display of your MacBook Pro. When you've connected your external monitor, the display on your Mac flickers. I'm happy to help.
Please disconnect the external monitor before each reset or restart.
How to turn on or turn off your Mac -- Disconnect the external monitor, then restart your MacBook Pro. If the display doesn't flicker, connect your external monitor again to test.
How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac -- If restating your Mac didn't resolve the issue, reset the System Management Controller. Follow the steps under "How to reset the SMC on Mac notebooks" for a nonremovable battery. If you own a 2018 model, use this link instead: How to reset the SMC on a Mac that has the Apple T2 chip. If the display doesn't flicker, connect your external monitor again to test.
Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac -- If resetting the SMC didn't resolve the issue, reset the nonvolatile random-access memory (NVRAM) using the steps in this article. If the display doesn't flicker, connect your external monitor again to test.
Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac -- If the issue persists, restart your Mac in safe mode and test how it responds. If the display doesn't flicker, reboot normally and log into your own user account. Connect your external monitor again to test. Remember this when booting in safe mode: Graphics performance limited in macOS Recovery, safe mode, or Guest User mode
Do you have access to another USB-C adapter that you can test with? Also, is this the only monitor you are having an issue with?
Let me know how that goes, and take care!
