The installation failed...

Hi, I'm trying to install the latest Canon driver for the TS6020 printer. I let the installer run its course, but right at the end I get the message below.

Is there any way to fix this? Canon doesn't have a clue.

Thanks!

Yep you can't do permissions repair on macOS now because you shouldn't need to, Apple introduced SIP (System Integrity Protection) a few OS's ago and this should stop permissions going astray, unless of course you have disabled it.

One way to reset some things is to install the latest Combo updater for your OS, download from here.

Download macOS Mojave 10.14.2 Combo Update

if you are already on 10.14.2 it is ok to install over your current installation, it will reset some system files and caches and may help with your problem. All your files and folders will be fine, but please make a full back up first.

You can run a permissions check and repair using this app, https://www.titanium-software.fr/en/onyx.html

it is free and of all the maintenance apps it is the most benign.

Well that is interesting I downloaded the driver and installed it without issue.

I downloaded it from here, https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/printers/inkjet-multifunction/ts-series-inkjet/ts6020-black/pixma-ts6020?tab=drivers_downloads

Is this the same driver you are trying to install. If not can you give me a link to the one you have tried to install.

Yes, that's the site. This is what I downloaded.

TS6000 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver.18.10.0.0 (Mac)

But here's something strange. I rebooted on my back-up drive and the same thing occurred where I couldn't print. Then I went to the System Pref's and clicked on Printers & Scanners. I accidentally doubled clicked in the left session where is says Canon TS6000 series and a little window popped up saying I needed to repair permissions. I did that and tried printing... it worked.

I rebooted again int my main drive, tried printing and that worked. What? Strange!!

Is there a way to repair permissions in Mojave? Using First Aid in Disk Utility really doesn't repair permissions like it used to in the older OS versions. I think I have an issue with permissions on my iMac Pro cause when I try to install software, I keep getting error's.

Thanks!

Funny you should say that. Last night I downloaded 10.14.2 Combo cause I was having issue's with another problem and it fixed it.

Lately I've been having problems with permissions. I don't know why this is so, but about a week ago, I noticed things were getting a little wonky regarding permissions.

I think you can repair permissions using this command in Terminal: diskutil resetUserPermissions / `id -u

I'll try OnyX. See if that gets me going.

Thanks again for all your help. I appreciate it.

Yes, sorry, you are absolutely correct it is not included in the Mojave version, you could run the maintenance scripts to see if that helps, use the default selection first.

I have got so many OS's and various copies of this and that etc you sometimes forget what has been changed from one to the other.

Otherwise just run the Terminal command you mentioned earlier.
