seeing so much mdworker activity is extremely troubling. Seeing so much Network activity is also troubling.
Are you synchronizing a lot of stuff onto the Web somehow? Like onto iCloud?
My iCloud is showing 2.6gb used of 5. But yes it is turned on and being synced with documents with the "Optimize Mac Storage" checked.
I concur with Grant Bennet-Alder on the EtreCheck report results. You may want to consider disabling the "Optimize" option (specifically the Store in iCloud > Desktop and Documents sub-option) to see if this resolves the issue ... especially if you have limited upload speeds for your Internet connection.
