Dividing an album into smaller albums

Want to take a large album and break into smaller.

leonie gave best trick ever for sorting pics when she taught me how to create a “photos not yet filed” album. I can easily go through those and sort them, working down the big pile of pics

anyway to do this when breaking up an album so I don’t have to keep checking if pics have been moved? I am not phrasing this well. It is a pain to move a bunch of pics to a new album and then come back and the pics are still there. Make sense?

I am mostly using smart albums based on keywords, when I create albums for separate categories. For example, I like to collect pictures of fountains, bridges, lighthouses.

So I have for each category a smart album with rules "keyword is Lighthouse", "keyword is fountain", keyword is bridge", etc.

To add a photo to a smart album I simply add the fitting keyword, and to remove it from the album, I delete the keyword from the photo. This is much faster than dragging to an album and removing it from the previous album. All keyword changes can be done in the Info panel. and the added bonus is, that I can see in the info which smart albums a photo is in.

A drawback of smart albums is, that they do not sync with iCloud to iPhones and iPads, only to other Macs.

BTW, it does not hurt to have a photo in several albums, because adding to an album does not create duplicates. Sometimes a photo will fit into several albums.
