Atmos no sound plays with Apple TV with Onkyo Samsung tv setup please help

so I am not getting any sound when I play atmos on my Apple TV... on either iTunes movie or netflix

My setup is onkyo txnr686 Samsung 65 inch Q9FN and apple tv 4K

I connected the atv to the Onkyo receiver txnr686 directly

and the arc on the receiver connects to my Samsung Q9FN...

if uhd hdr is turned off on the Samsung tv, Atmos plays no problem.. if uhd hdr is turned on Atmos plays no sound.. it doesn’t matter what the material is Netflix, or iTunes movies...(no atmos movies play finewith sound )

if if I turn off atmos on the Apple TV settings and force to make it 5.1 everything sounds fine

I saw some posts earlier blaming Samsung TVs... however I think its not the tv nor the receiver because if I unplug my Apple TV and replace it with the same setup with my Xbox one x it does both atmos and uhd hdr no problem what so ever.. please fix this apple.

I ask because you didn’t mention it … Are your HDMI cables HDMI 2.0/18 Gbps/“Premium High Speed” or better? Lower spec cables may support lesser bandwidth, which may not be enough with all settings maxed out, and the way that Apple TV sends the Atmos through (not bitstream like the source, but higher bandwidth to allow some audio manipulation). “Apple TV 4K uses a high bandwidth form of Dolby Atmos.”

I've a similar setup. Onkyo TX-777, LG TV. Apple TV into receiver. TV into receiver. Atmos will work under these conditions: First - Content needs to be Atmos enabled. Try viewing "The Martian" - from the iTunes store on Apple TV. That movie fits all requirements, there may be others but I know that one to work. Second, the TV will not say Amos is working - because the sound is coming from the receiver - not the TV. The receiver will say Atmos enabled, and it will show that on the receiver display. Third, HDMI cable capability - make sure they are 2.1 capable cables.. sounds odd to say. Four, my TV says it is in Dolby Vision during this movie. So, assuming you have the correct amount and setup of your speakers, the receiver will say Atmos when the media has the Atmos content encoded, the TV may not say Atmos, since you're not using the speaker on the TV - you're using the receiver for sound. Make sense?

As mentioned in my original post my connection looks like this

Apple TV -> onkyo TX-nr686 (hdmi 1)

samsung Q9fn -> onkyo (hdmi 4arc)

playing fantastic beast east on iTunes movies.. labelled as Atmos .. will give me no sound.. if I disable Atmos force 5.1 on Apple TV then there will be sound.

if I unplugg the Samsung tv from arc Atmos starts too

same happens playing Netflix Atmos films like bird box or altered carbon.

when no sound comes out my onkyo say input is pcm 2.0 out put 5.1.2

im Usjng belkin 4k high speed cable bought from Apple store 2 of them one from atv to avr one from avr to tv

they are rated hdmi 2.1 w 48ghtz bandwidth
