Apple CarPlay problem with 2019 Acura RDX and iPhone X

After connecting, successfully, my iPhone X to the RDX's infotainment unit, the connection repeatedly cuts off, only to re-connect some time later. I have changed cords, and the software on both the phone and the infotainment system are up to date.

I fiinally fixed the Apple CarPlay issues my wife was having with her 2019 Acura RDX and her iPhone 8. After following all the ideas on this page, my nearly identical phone worked, and hers did not.

I went into the phone profiles in the car’s CarPlay settings, and there were two profiles for her phone. I deleted them (along with all unneeded profiles created by the dealer test drives, etc.) and her phone works flawlessly.

I also recommend naming your phone something other than the default “iPhone” in the general settings.

BPpark, I haven't witnessed a specific trend, although I haven't been able to time how long it takes for the phone to disconnect / reconnect. I think the first time my phone disconnects is within a minute, and it takes ~2 minutes to reconnect. And on average, it will disconnect / re-connect 4 times before becoming 'stable' and remaining on for the remainder of the drive.

Wait, they are really offering settlements now? Throwing their hands up?? Thank you Leo666. Did they really keep your car for 9 days because of this? And do we really think Acura Engineers have not already evaluated information sent from dealers???

I gotta think they know it's not fixible.

And thanks everyone for the work arounds. Yes you can use bluetooth but the sound stinks and all of the other functions are of significant value not just playing music.

they did not offer to buy the car back. It’s just a wad of cash to get me to stop calling them. Lol. They sent me a release form to sign that says I can’t sue them or hold them responsible for anything pertaining to this issue. I would have to live with a defective car because I really believe they will not completely fix this. That is why I’m also talking to a lawyer.

I don't think they will fix it neither.

I am not sure I would take the cash if offered, I would likely sell the car and take the loss.

I am wondering if by taking the cash and acknowledging the car is defective, you may have problems to sell it later.

I did spoke to a Lemon Lawyer, that was very nice, called me and spent the time on the phone, didn't charge me anything, but said I don't have a case as they will blame Apple and it is stated that Apple CarPlay is not their responsibility. Let me know if you hear different.

BPpark, I have spent quite a bit of time driving over the last few months. My phone battery level has been all different levels (minimally charge, fully charged, etc.). The phone battery charge level has not affected the connectivity (at least in any noticeable way). I continue to see frequent disconnects/reconnects.

cmparis, do you have actual confirmation that Acura's engineers are _not_ doing what we're doing? While I am incredibly frustrated with CarPlay, I don't want to point the finger at Acura (or Apple) until I have confirmation of where the blame resides.

And I'm glad that you mentioned your device continued to charge despite CarPlay not working. That is a detail I wanted to add as well. Obviously the USB port is working, and the iPhone recognizes it, as the iPhone continues to charge despite CarPlay not working.

Okay, great! So we were able to replicate problem, unrelated with CarPlay with another one. Please guys, and girls, keep trying!!!!!

whoever wrote about the fuse, please please, give us more info.

at this point, I will record issue with USB and contact lawyer again, as issue appears unrelated with CarPlay, I think we are into something.

Okay! I did a lot more testing, and I will put in on a video again on youtube soon, I do thing we are getting to the problem.

now, I need one last test, and I need help from you guys.

there is two things I need to test with Android Phones:

1- Does Android CarPlay world?

2- if no above, does USB works on an android phone?

I need you guys help! I don’t have android, not know anyone that has it for the test. If you guys tell me that is doesn’t work as well, I will buy one for the videos, or try to borrow.

I want to corner Acura, and they do care for this videos, as it hurts them.

also, with that documented, we can likely sue acure.

Welcome to our family, Shaina08. We are all having this problem and none of us have found a reliable way out yet – perhaps we never will. It doesn’t appear that anyone from Acura reads these messages, or at least they don’t respond. It’s a serious safety issue as well. While I am sure none of us would do so, doubtless there are many Acura drivers who will wrestle with this problem while they are driving. Needless to say, it’s unlikely any of us will ever be Acura owners or lessees again.
