Apple CarPlay problem with 2019 Acura RDX and iPhone X

After connecting, successfully, my iPhone X to the RDX's infotainment unit, the connection repeatedly cuts off, only to re-connect some time later. I have changed cords, and the software on both the phone and the infotainment system are up to date.

I fiinally fixed the Apple CarPlay issues my wife was having with her 2019 Acura RDX and her iPhone 8. After following all the ideas on this page, my nearly identical phone worked, and hers did not.

I went into the phone profiles in the car’s CarPlay settings, and there were two profiles for her phone. I deleted them (along with all unneeded profiles created by the dealer test drives, etc.) and her phone works flawlessly.

I also recommend naming your phone something other than the default “iPhone” in the general settings.

BPpark, I’m happy to hear of your success after updating to IOS 13.2.2. I have done both also, but unfortunately I am still getting intermittent drop outs and reconnects on my iPhone X. However, today was better than yesterday. If I can get 80% connectivity, I can manage most situations (other 20% is gps and unforgiving.) That’s a sad commentary that owners are thankful for an infotainment system that works 80% of the time! Yesterday my Acura nav system not only lost its way, it dropped all audio during the duration of my trip. Luckily it was a relatively short trip. Once I restarted the RDX, audio returned. Anyway, keep us updated on your progress!

Glad to hear others are calling Acura client relations. I pointed them to Leo’s video on Monday as that is 100% my situation as well. Still when you call them it would be good if you referred to the video if that is what you are seeing. The more people that call the more they will look into it. I told them about this forum, not sure if they are looking at it.

I have been unable to get them to assign a case for me even though I have asked repeatedly about that. Wish I knew how I could get them to follow up with me ?

On the brighter side, SiriusXM loads much faster now for me since this last update and overall works much better with no more “end of buffer” type messages when changing channels that I was occasionally getting before.

We just got our car back from Acura after they installed the new "Infotainment control unit" that supposedly fixes the issue. Well.... after about 2 minutes of driving the car, the issues started happening again. :(

The audio cuts out while listening to music on carplay and using talk-to-text feature while listening to radio switches to a different source after sending message. These are the 2 issues that are 100% reproducible.

VERY frustrated about this!!! I am about to take this POS to a Lexus dealership and trade it in - even though we've only had the car about 6 months.

So, I just got out fo the phone with the Lemon Lawyer, and he said that according to CA Lemon law, I wouldn't get anything, as it is not the car, just an accessory to the car. I am not sure he is right. I tried 2 lemon Lawyers, one not even answered, this one call back and spent time on the phone with me, my guess, I am stuck with this car.

I also agreed about the class action, I won't get nothing meaningful out of it, I am likely to trade this car in sooner that I expected.

Does anyone notice any difference with the latest iOS--13.2.3? I just installed it and on two consecutive outings, Car Play was instantly available and stayed on, whereas previously it was initially unavailable and/or stayed on for only 5 minutes after startup on most attempts. Two out of two doesn't make a trend, but I'm hoping this is begining of one. Apple said 13.2.3 included various bug fixes, but Car Play wasn't listed. Does anybody have anything to report?

I just used it, way in, no bugs, perfect, way back, same issue. Only difference, is that at a given point, it got frozen, I couldn't skip a song, then a message came giving me the option to restart apple CarPlay, never saw that before, but also had the usual drop, and it was unavailable for the rest of the trip. No big changes.

I don't know why all you people are complaining. Acura told me yesterday, the "latest update" solved ALL the CarPlay problems and there haven't been any complaints since the update was issued.

As for my situation? After working nearly flawlessly for almost 3 months (since the previous Acura update), my system is completely useless, after the latest update. The system is worse than it was, when I drove the car off the showroom floor, just about a year ago. It won't stay connected, for more than a few minutes. I don't have the freezing issues or any of that, just constant disconnects.

Ok. So this is an update to when I first had problems with CarPlay. I downloaded the update. Everything worked beautifully. No issues. Woke up this morning to get gas for my car and I now have the dreaded blank infotainment screen. Got my gas. When I had to reverse, the screen changed to the disclaimer screen and has remained there ever since. So yay for me that I can look forward to a dead battery. I tried all of the resets and no dice. Glad I joined the class action lawsuit. And this will be the last Acura that I lease.

You are lucky, it is just a lease, I bought, and I am stuck with it.

My last update: I have ben dealing with Acura now, they, different then dealer, think it can be fixed.

They want me to take the car to the dealer, and if the dealer tells me that they can't do anything, to call him (my case manager at Acura), as he would call them. According to him, he already spoke with my Dealer, and they (Acura, not the dealer), wants to replicate the problem.

I noticed the posts here decreased, were anyone able to fix the problem? I will be taking the car to the dealer in a few weeks and update you guys.

I just had my 2019 RDX in the shop for a B 1 2 service, and I also submitted my obligatory “CarPlay disconnect” issue as usual. The tech checked and applied the latest update. Not only did it not fix the problem, my speaker on my iPhone X stopped working within an hour of reconnecting to CarPlay. When I get home, I had to hard reset my phone to get my speaker working again! Is it possible something else caused it - yeah, but unlikely. The speaker had never malfunctioned previously. I’ve resigned myself to live with it until I get another vehicle. What a joke,
