Apple CarPlay problem with 2019 Acura RDX and iPhone X

After connecting, successfully, my iPhone X to the RDX's infotainment unit, the connection repeatedly cuts off, only to re-connect some time later. I have changed cords, and the software on both the phone and the infotainment system are up to date.

I fiinally fixed the Apple CarPlay issues my wife was having with her 2019 Acura RDX and her iPhone 8. After following all the ideas on this page, my nearly identical phone worked, and hers did not.

I went into the phone profiles in the car’s CarPlay settings, and there were two profiles for her phone. I deleted them (along with all unneeded profiles created by the dealer test drives, etc.) and her phone works flawlessly.

I also recommend naming your phone something other than the default “iPhone” in the general settings.

Hey RDX drivers.... the bluetooth is our only source. I have noticed and this loud screeching noise when I get a text message and it really startles me and makes me jump sometimes. When I get a text, the alert sound. Do ya'll experience this loud screech and after that the next message tone is normal.. This all started at the same time my CarPlay failed me. Correct that this is a

Funny you said that. I wrote to my dealership "Acura guy", the guy is suppose to answer you questions about the car. I was just asking if he heard anything about it. For my surprise, he said he not even heard about an issue with the car. he wrote "Unfortunately I'm not aware of any issues with apple car play on the RDX and therefore haven't seen or heard anything about updates for it. All I can say is make sure your phone has the latest update and make sure the car is up to date as well." That upset me a lot, as I already took the car there and the service specialist said that there is nothing they can do, and I am not the only one.

I am not sure about this memo. They may just tell you that when you call to get rid of you, or the guy at my dealership doesn't want to assume a problem with a car he is still selling.

My advice would be to return it asap if that’s an option, but that assumes the value of CarPlay to you is more than what extra you will pay to buy a 2020 or something from another manufacturer.

This problem has been going on so long that I highly doubt that there will be a year-end software fix, as has been promised for months now. This is not the moon landing. I think if it was fixable it would have been already. Just expressing my opinion. I hope to be pleasantly surprised on or before 12/31/19.

I tried it & so far little improvement regarding dropouts. Carplay seems a little faster, but it’s still dropping out after a few minutes. It does seem to try to reconnect, but it doesn’t hold using my iPhone X. I’m resigned to the fact that this issue will not be fixed in its entirety & Acura doesn’t care bcuz it’s not impacting their sales significantly.

We like to keep hope and fool ourselves :)

But I agree, the good results are purely random, and eventually most cars will turn back to constantly dropping.

I scheduled with my dealer, so yesterday, I decided to have my wife filming the problem while we were riding together, first trip was before update, of course, no errors second trip was after update, again, just because she was filming, no errors.

It doesn't mean problem was fixed, it just means it happens randomly.

I installed the update, plugged in my iPhone and CarPlay worked for about 5 minutes and then it disconnected. Put me in the underwhelmed category. I suppose I could try the reset as well, but have little confidence that will help.

Reading the update notes, it did not clearly state that they were fixing the disconnect issue. So if they are saying they thought this update fixed the issue, that is not good news.

Leo, Yes that it the same experience for me as well, when it happens it usually disconnects within the first 4 or 5 minutes. And you can not get it to connect for a number of minutes after. Sometimes it works OK the whole trip but about half the car trips I end up with the same disconnect behavior as in your video. If you end up going to lemon lawyer law let us know how that goes. Thank for your video documenting this !
