Apple CarPlay problem with 2019 Acura RDX and iPhone X

After connecting, successfully, my iPhone X to the RDX's infotainment unit, the connection repeatedly cuts off, only to re-connect some time later. I have changed cords, and the software on both the phone and the infotainment system are up to date.

I fiinally fixed the Apple CarPlay issues my wife was having with her 2019 Acura RDX and her iPhone 8. After following all the ideas on this page, my nearly identical phone worked, and hers did not.

I went into the phone profiles in the car’s CarPlay settings, and there were two profiles for her phone. I deleted them (along with all unneeded profiles created by the dealer test drives, etc.) and her phone works flawlessly.

I also recommend naming your phone something other than the default “iPhone” in the general settings.

I'm having this problem with an iPhone 8 and a 2019 RDX that I bought in April. The problem didn't start until a few weeks ago, and it has gotten worse with the update to iOS 13. I'm now up to 13.1.2 and, if anything, it's worse. I also got a new cable, directly from the Apple Store, and it has had no effect. On a half-hour trip today I had to disconnect and reconnect three times because Car Play kept dropping off. I have a gut feeling the problem is mostly an Acura issue beause I often get in the car, turn things on, and the info screen icon for Car Play will be ghosted out--and when I try to connect, up comes the error message "Apple Car Play is Unavailable." Now what do I do?

Same exact thing happens to me! Purchased 19 RDX in July '18. It worked fine until about 3 months ago. I drive over an hour each way to work and when this connect/reconnect happens I want to rip the steering wheel off!! I paid too much money for this to happen. When it completely goes out (the sound is as if the needle scratches across a record), it is out for the duration of my trip. The radio does not shut off when I reach my destination. It may or may not work when I come back to my car 8 hours later. So, I must ride in silence... I am highly upset. I just saw the reboot youtube video, I will try that. Users say it's temporary, but I will take it for now! This issue is counterproductive to my blood pressure medication!!!

I know it's not my phone/cord/system update, as apple carplay works perfectly in my husband's Tahoe and in a few rentals we've had.

I’m glad some people have luck with Apple CarPlay. I’m not one of the lucky ones. It stopped working two weeks after I got my car and has been ghosted out since. I tried calling Acura support- useless. I switched out cables. Did hard resets. And joined the class action lawsuit too!

But my previous Acura did not have Car play so I’m using my work arounds until the winter update is installed. I have a car mount clipped to my vent. I use the Bluetooth on my iPhone and Waze as my guidance. Not perfect but it gets me through my commute.

Most people are like you and me. Once the problem starts, it doesn't go away, with or without reseting the system, or changing cables. I am also ignoring the main feature I like about the car, and disable apple CarPlay on my phone and wife's phone.

I also joined the class action, however, I am not sure what to expect. I don't know if it will ever come to an amount that will make up for all the frustration, unless Acura has to do a buy back. let's wait and see.

Update

After the reset on youtube a few times, that option no longer works. It completely removed my radio before it quit. Hitting the 3 buttons at once does nothing now. I did a factory reset (in the car settings) it restored my radio, and apple carplay is there. I have no idea if it solved the on/off issue because now I get no sound. Nothing. Screen works, no sound. That has nothing to do with my phone, because it is not connected, apple issued cord either. When I plug my phone in, it goes dead, and I have to restart that. Now, I drive listening to my phone radio or music on my phone speaker. For almost an $50,000 car, this is absolutely ridiculous.

Next stop is my dealer, if not resolved, I'm joining the class action suit.

Dude, you need to stop posting! You are NOT helping anyone. There is no denying that the system is defective. I don’t know what your deal is - maybe you work for Acura PR/Legal and you’re trying to diffuse the situation like the dealerships are when they refuse to write up the service calls for resetting the infotainment system. They are clearly trying to avoid thousands of people returning these vehicles under the Lemon Law - that is FAR more costly than paying out a class action lawsuit. This is a real situation and I’m very happy you think you’re not affected (or getting a fat Acura bonus for saving $ millions).

so, to reiterate - STOP,!!!

I’ve personally tried every fix listed by other posters as well has multiple iPhones. During my trip hone last night CarPlay quit on me three times requiring me to switch over to Bluetooth. 5-10min later the system reconnects and switches back.

I’ve used countless other CarPlay vehicles with all types of iOS versions and I’ve never had an issue. I’m sure Honda knows what the issue is but they’re trying whatever they can to avoid a massive recall

For those with no problems, congratulations, but please do not discount the voice of us that do. My 2019 RDX Carplay function initially worked fine. After a few months, in came in and went out. Now, I have no sound AT ALL. I've done factory resets multiple times. I've done everything suggested except stand on one foot and hop with an electric wire! Phone is not an issue. I have no volume, nothing. How is that my fault, or Apple's problem?

My dealer appointment is this weekend. I will be sure and update

When is there going to be a resolution to this? There are a lot of people experiencing this issue and it is honestly a safety concern. Specifically when you're using the GPS. It also distracts the driver as they try to re connect the phone when it randomly disconnects. I just went out and traded in my Xs Max 256 gb for the 11 Pro Max 256 gb hoping it was my hardware, but still having the same issue. We spend A LOT of money to use Apple products as well as Acura because they are supposed to work flawlessly. Please fix this issue ASAP!!!!!
