Apple CarPlay problem with 2019 Acura RDX and iPhone X

After connecting, successfully, my iPhone X to the RDX's infotainment unit, the connection repeatedly cuts off, only to re-connect some time later. I have changed cords, and the software on both the phone and the infotainment system are up to date.

I fiinally fixed the Apple CarPlay issues my wife was having with her 2019 Acura RDX and her iPhone 8. After following all the ideas on this page, my nearly identical phone worked, and hers did not.

I went into the phone profiles in the car’s CarPlay settings, and there were two profiles for her phone. I deleted them (along with all unneeded profiles created by the dealer test drives, etc.) and her phone works flawlessly.

I also recommend naming your phone something other than the default “iPhone” in the general settings.

My iPhone is a 6xPlus, and I have all the same problems with connectivity as the newer models. At this juncture, I am no longer using CarPlay and am only using Bluetooth. As I stated in previous responses, this is really disappointing and really unbelievable that neither Acura or Apple fix this. I bought my 2019 Acura in December and have not been able to use what I was sold.

Most every manufacturer is having problems, because Apple updates every month and changes things.

One "glitch" I discovered yesterday, is not really a "glitch" ... but and "Apple Feature" of Beta 13.

The CarPlay dual screen, on has Apple Maps on the left side ... it won't display Waze (at least I haven't yet got to display Waze). This is strictly an Apple issue, I believe.

Beta 13 should go public tomorrow or Wednesday. We'll see what that brings.

2 Glitches that I found today.

The implementation of "Messages" isn't great, certainly not as good as before the Acura & Apple Upgrades. Not only is the implementation a bit awkward, there's a sound problem and you can't hear the message being read.

Also, I had a problem switching "Play Lists". It was a huge deal, but I had to go to my iPhone, to switch lists ... the infotainment system wouldn't accept the touch input.

In case you haven't noticed, this is an Apple Discussion board. Apple monitors posts in real time and isn't shy about removing and/or editing posts they don't like.

Further, if you read the Non Disclosure Agreement with the PUBLIC Beta 13, you'll see that participants are not prohibited from talking about features Apple has already released to the general public.

Thanks Brian for all the information you always send to us.

I am looking forward to the update. It seems clear that Acura update was useless for the 12.41 iOS version.

According to you, it was a big improvement with the iOS 13.

Also, apparently, other luxury companies with double screen were also having problems, maybe the new iOS will fix it for all.

About the class action against Acura, does anyone have any information about it?

So after about a week-10 days with the updates, my results are:

The implementation of "Playlists" is very glitchy.

I don't like the implementation of Waze, but I believe that's an Apple decision.

Voice directions and Messages, have a volume issue and I don't like the implementation of Messages.

The "cord sensitivity" seems to have disappeared and I did NOT change my cord.

I've occasionally had "touch pad" issues, but I'm not sure if they're related to the pad or the software.

There are occasional, random glitches, but not any more than my iPhone has in general.

It's a huge improvement from the prior versions.

Several months ago I had all of the problems mentioned including the screen of death that would not disappear even when the the car was turned off. I have a 2019 RDX and a 6+ iPhone with up to date software. The YouTube video I posted here solved my problem 99% of the time. It did not seem to work for others. I’m positive it did not work for others because of “user error” and neither do I think Apple or Acura made special software for me. We are dealing with two very complex entities and the variables are unfathomable. I wouldn’t presume to know all of them.

Like you, I waited for the iOS13, I was very hopeful based on Brian's updates, but first time my wife connected, it disconnected in the first few minutes. When I took the car, I deleted the Apple CarPlay profile for both phones (mine and my wife), and I deleted my phone and my wife's profile from the car infotainment, and again, after a few minutes, it disconnected.

The only thing I didn't tried already, was to reboot the system. To be honest, I am not sure if it will make any difference. It is a defective system and I am now joining the class action. No more patient for Acura.

Good luck with getting them to take it back.

A company I work for, sells over 10,000 new vehicles a year. Just a guess, but I doubt they bought back more than 10 vehicles last year.

I had an Infiniti with a completely useless phone connection (I didn't use it at all, for the 4 years I had the car). I'm in the business and couldn't get Infiniti to do anything, other than offer me $500.
