Mojave crashing continuously

Hello everyone i was hoping some tech geeks could shed some light on the issue I am having since the Mojave update.

Since the update i have been dealing with lots of crashing of my computer. From freezing randomly and shutting down, to going to sleep as i am using it never to wake again, to crashing as it sleeps and the lid is closed where the fans run really loud for no reason and it won't wake from sleep. These issues happen in safe boot mode as well. It seems like it is some kind of overdrive because it always happen after i used the computer for a while, or after i use heavy softwares. It crashed on me while i was doing nothing as well. I have reset the NVRAM and SMC, clean installed my computer, the problem persists. Mind you that my machine is compatible for Mojave, has the same hardware to that of the new MBPs. I called apple support and they told me to go to a genius bar and I might have to downgrade because it might not work with my hardware. I'm confused, since it is the same as the new MBPs and that no one else seems to be having any issues. I also ran diagnostics in recovery and my hardware appears to be fine.

Anyway, any of you have any idea what it could be?

If i can figure out what's wrong it would make it easier for me to find a solution. Downgrading is still on my mind but i'd love to figure out what the problem is.

Machine specs:

MBP 15 inch late 2013

2,6 GHz Intel Core i7

Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

1TB SSD

Apps i use mainly:

Adobe CC: Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, XD, Chrome, Email

Alright! So the culprit is the GPUs, the NVIDIA one doesn't always get recognised, and when it does it's instant shutdown. I did a bit of digging and Apple did (one of many for this model) a recall because of a manufacturing error and failing GPUs. Missed the recall as it went under the radar of course, but my solution was to deactivate the automatic GPU switch, and download GFX Card Status and have the option "integrated only" on. It's been as stable as can be ever since, only shutdown when it recognised the NVDIA GPU. If you have the same model as me you might want to try this solution!

Don't worry my friend. Many many other users are having this same problem after upgrading to Mojave. It is not you or your hardware. Nevertheless, the problem has not been narrowed down to a single factor, as many of the issues appear under different scenarios. Thing is, Mojave seems to be too susceptible to a certain combination of factors, shutting down in a Kernel Panic and restarting by itself every so often. If you look closely at this forum, you will find evidence of this. I myself was about to downgrade to High Sierra after many days struggling and investigating with this issue. Instead, I merely wiped my HD and started with a fresh Mojave installation - as of this afternoon, I have merely restored my settings from iCloud backups (not documents or apps tho). And am one by one installing the most important Apps and restoring my working files from an external HD backup. I will try Mojave a bit under this clean slate scenario (as opposed to upgrading on top of a previous system). I'll post my findings when there is something to post. Cheers.

Unfortunately i can't get the reports, the dialog box after reboot only tells me it shut down due to error and asks me if i want to open all the apps again.

Update:

i looked into the crashlogs in my library and it looks like most of it is dues to excessive wakeups, which are not correlated to one app specifically as all the apps i use most cause this issue (maily adobe CC apps). Some crashlogs are also related to gpu and cpu. i have an intel and nvidia gpu in my machine, and since mojave i learned that apple no longer supports cudas from nvidia. When I look oin the folder crash reporter i see a lot of these : =AssocFail{sts/2,rsn/0} and this code =AWDL_NON_ZERO_CHAN_INFRA_ASSOC

Alright latest update:

I tried downgrading today and the crashing is also happening in High Sierra. i’ve tried to reset the SMC numerous times but no luck. I’m now convinced mojave destroyed my laptop, as this NEVER happenned before the update. It’s looking fine in safemode, ssd is in good healthas is the rest of my hardware. I’m going to relate this to an overheating problem. I will open the backing and see if there is some cleaning to do, as that might be the reason for my issues. My thinking now is i will switch to a PC as Apple is not suited for professional use anymore. Good luck to the rest of you! I hope it works out one day!

Perhaps Mojave didn't do anything to your laptop. The fact that you are having issues under High Sierra, does suggest that what both OSs have in common might be worth looking at: the introduction of APFS file system. Sierra was the last to use Mac OS Extended, and after that, High Sierra introduced AppleFileSystem. That is a pretty big thing, so you might want to consider going back to Sierra instead of High Sierra and checking out if your problems persist. Good luck!

Sorry for the late update. I did wipe my internal SSD clean and installed from scratch. Mojave's Kernel Panics returned soon after. I am as of now, learning to live with a Mac that will crash sooner rather than later. Problem is, I perform live with it at least twice a week, usually more. It is hard to convey the feeling of uneasiness I have to endure during those times playing live. Even with a pre-recorded set stored in my phone ready to kick-in in case the Mac crashes, this shameful condition brought upon by upgrading to Mojave - one for which Apple has still to at least show some form of acknowledgment - is utterly precarious.

Thanks! I have a bunch of those. This one is from January 17th. Cheers!
