iPad unable to update ios 9.3.5

So, I go to settings, general, updates, install now. On the bar that I tap on that says "install now", all the way to the right it just keeps spinning and won't update. This is a 3rd gen iPad. If you know what i should be doing, I would love some feedback. My iPad has gotten so slow and drags and I am hoping this update will help fix that. Thanks!

It is not completely clear to me. Are you running iOS 9.3.5 now, or are you trying to get to 9.3.5?

A 3rd Gen iPad (from 2012) cannot run an iOS version than 9.3.5. If it is running something older than iOS 9.3.5, connect the iPad to a computer running iTunes. Then you should be able to update to iOS 9.3.5.

I would try force restarting the iPad and then go back into the settings and try again.

To force restart your device, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

If that fails, you can try deleting the iOS software in the settings, download it again and then try installing again. Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage > Manage Storage. Let the list of apps load and look for the iOS 9.3.5 Update in the list. Tap on that and you can delete it in the next screen.

Thank you so much for your help. When I went to the Manager Storage and tapped on ios 9.3.5 the only choice i had was to delete update so I must have installed it and didn't even realize it. So, any suggestions on making it run faster? it is so bogged down. i have 23.5GB free out of 3.4GB. Thanks once again. I appreciate your help
