How do I turn off sent imessage sound on macbook air mojave?

I can't turn off the swoosh sound when I send text messages on MacBook Air using the Mojave OS. Any ideas? I don't want to use do not disturb, I simply want to turn off the sound of sending a text message. I don't have this issue on my old MacBook Air running El Capitan.

Uncheck "Play sound effects" in Messages' preferences.
