Denon receiver with AirPlay 2

I just updated my home theatre receiver to a Denon AVR-X3500H with AirPlay 2 and wanted to let the Apple community know that it works flawlessly with HomeKit. I spoke to an apple representive (super friendly and knowledgeable) and even after asking her supervisors, she was unable to confirm for sure if an AirPlay 2 enabled receiver could be controlled using Siri via my HomePods. I took the chance and got it all set up and “it just works”! Once the unit was updated via Denon’s HEOS app and connected to my WiFi, it showed up in HomeKit when I selected “add a device”. Now I can ask Siri to “play this in the family room too” and she syncs the HomePods with the receiver. In addition, of course, it’s easy to control the receiver via the control Centre on any of my iOS devices. Thank you to Denon for taking the lead with Apple connectivity and thanks to Apple for being awesome!

Unfortunately, it appears the Denon receiver can only show up as one zone (or room) in HomeKit even though it has two zone capability. I use the zone 2 pre out from the Denon as a source for my Nuvo whole home audio so I can listen to whatever is originating from the HomePods in any room of the house. I can then adjust on/off and volume via the Nuvo keypads. It’s not as good as having a HomeKit enabled device in each room; however, I can skip songs and even select new playlists etc from anywhere using the control centre on any iOS device in the House. And, of course, via the HomePods if they are within shouting distance!
