How do I first close Dropbox so I may remove it from my Macmini? (late 2012 model)

I have followed the advice, suggestions that were written and they either didn't apply to my particular Mac, or didn't work for some other reason? Anyway, I am still unable to close the application and remove it from my Macmini. Any other suggestions or help out there please? I know I must close the application first, but I don't know how!

Thanks!

Click on the Dropbox icon in the right-hand end of the menubar. Then click on the cogwheel icon at the right-hand end of the pane which opens, and in the menu which drops down click 'Quit'.

Failing that, open Utilities/Activity Monitor, locate Dropbox in the list of processes, select it, then click on the 'X' button in the top left-hand corner of the window to quit it.
