My husband and I are going on vacation with some friends. I'm the only one in the group who is bringing a phone. I will also have my apple watch which has its own number and is connected to cellular.
Can I take the watch and my husband take my phone and still communicate?

You will not be able to voice call between the watch and the phone because they share the same number, but you might be successful sending iMessages to your own ID and having them appear on both devices.
The watch does not have its own number. It is slaved off of the SIM in your phone. There is a unique number on your phone bill for it, but that's just for billing purposes.
