Mojave (DVDPlayer) no longer plays Video_TS files on local disk?

Anyone else ****** about this? In Mojave it seems that the DVDPlayer utility is being dropped or not updated to 64bit. It will still play a DVD from a Superdrive but not Video_TS files. Apple has done this without a replacement for the DVDPlayer. Yes, I know VLC will play them but I don't care for the interface. I just want something simple like the DVDPlayer.

Apple support says that this is expected functionality... which is to ignore your file selection without any message (error or otherwise) when selecting a file to play. Come on Apple - Really? Bad programming is expected functionality?

Am I the only one that wants to play Video_TS files? How can the only threads that come up on this be 12 years old?

What say you? Should Apple Update DVDPlayer for Mojave and beyond?
