I have created an m4v file and want to edit it in iMovie. I recorded audio&video in Keynote and exported it as a movie, resulting in m4v file. iMovie will not import it - either by dragging or by menu command.
HELP, please.

The M4v format is compatible with iMovie 10 and should import in.. I just tried it with a Keynote exported M4v file and it worked fine.
Since it is not working for you, iMovie is not functioning correctly. It might be a corrupted preference. Try restarting your computer and opening iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and selecting to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Now see if you can import the Mp4v file.

That worked.
After deleting preferences I was able to import the m4v file, as well as some .mov files I had recorded in QTP but was not able to import either.
Sure is a hidden problem - I've been using Macs [as well as PCs] since '84, and had never run across corrupted application preferences before.

Follow-up:
Rich839 your tip not only worked, but the knowledge-base it came from - in this case at least - was better than the Apple Store 'geniuses'. I was in NYC for several weeks and pestered them on 5 or 6 separate visits, and got no helpful suggestions. Mostly 'reinstall a fresh copy', which I did to no avail.
In the 10 days since your suggestion, I have been able to merge-edit-export 2 hrs of very satisfying instructional video and am very appreciative.
As an aside, I have been struck by how much having the right tool [in this case iMovie] can expand one's awareness and creativity in doing something. Accessible editorial capability has opened my thinking about both the content and presentation of my subject matter.
