EXCELSIOR E2 hard drive missing

I came home to my mac pro being frozen. I had to to a hard restart and it could only my my HD which was a Leopard OS in on of my 4 drive bays. I have an EXCELSIOR E2 hard drive 540GB, and when I went to disk utility, the computer can't see the drive. I have tried a few tricks, but can't get the older OS to boot into a safe mode. Anyway I don't know if the E2 is fried or can I see it to reformat it.

Any suggestions for startup diagnostics?

2009 Mac Pro 2.26GHz, EXCELSIOR E2 hard drive, Yosemite, 7200 rpm HDs in other bays.
