how to set up old airport express on MacBook air

I have an old airport express that I'm trying to use to extend my wifi network. I had used this for network with a different name once, and I can see that in the network choices in the wifi menu. I want to connect it to a different network. How do I do this? Thanks.

The AirPort Express will not be able to wirelessly extend a WiFi network unless the network is being broadcast by another Apple AirPort router.

So, the first troubleshooting step here would be to ask.......what is the make and model number of the router that is providing the "different" network?

Next step would be to ask what model of the "old" AirPort Express do you have? Does it have only one Ethernet port? If yes, look on the side of the device for the model number. It starts with an "A" followed by four numbers and post back with that info.

Or, do you have an AirPort Express model that has two Ethernet ports?

If you can connect the AirPort Express back to the Spectrum router using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection, then it can be set up to provide more wireless coverage that way.

Another option might be to turn off the WiFi on the Spectrum router and turn it back on at the Time Capsule. Then, the AirPort Express would be able to wirelessly extend the signal from the Time Capsule.
