Does anyone know if the calculator widget on the notification panel has been fixed in OS Mojave?
This is the error where you go to use the calculator, and it has some default number. I have read that there is a fix for this. I thought it might be easier to update my mac instead of messing in areas that I am unsure of.

I don't remember the fix and I don't have the link. But I remember it only involves deleting one file so if you have the link to fix it someone can guide you if needed. It certainly would be easier than upgrading to Mojave assuming your Mac is new enough to do so.
I found the fix. Type or Paste the following line into Finder > Go > Go to Folder… then delete the .plist file.
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.ncplugin.calculator/Data/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ncplugin.calculator.plist
