Gmail will not open in my mavericks OS

Gmail will not open in my mavericks OS, with last safari version that mavericks would allow to update to. Sorry, I am at work on windows, with no numbers or versions for my iMac. I am sure I will be back to this thread tonight.

Interesting that exactly 1 year ago yesterday there were exactly the same issues reported in this forum.

[[Note: this is a newish 2011-ish computer that is at mavericks because apple would never allow an update beyond mavericks because apple did not like me maxing out the ram, but that is another story...).]]

Anyway,

I tried overnight unplugged power and internet, reset both this morning, problem remained.

I tried restoring from 1.5 month ago good sound back up, problem continues to persist.

This is annoying and inconvenient.

Loading my iMac with a variety of browsers for "different" or "special" occasions is a primitive, inefficient, and archaic way to only "work-around" a problem.

Thanks,

Vetus

So sorry.

that is not the case, nor the question. this mid 2011 imac marked the end (or interval during which) of apple allowing any home ram upgrades that were not done and paid for by apple-inc.....to upgrade operating systems. this iMac cannot, and has not upgraded to yosemite nor, of course, any OS thereafter.

Even with returning factory (minimal) ram sticks......imac still heats to solar flare hot and auto-shuts down.

so technically it would run yosemite, if i desired to melt thru inner earth to china.

I had two threads, here(?), re inability, and apple's prevention, of that iMac to upgrade to yosemite, at the time yosemite came out.

All of this was thrashed out there in multiple posts by others, as well as myself. in this or macrumors or appleinsider or where the **** ever.

But I digress.

So. the original question is still asked, pertinent, well thought out, and the main point here.

Thanks so much to anyone in advance, for a solution to the original problem as it is stated.

All sarcasm aside.

Two iMacs Side by Side in Computer Library : late-2009-high sierra and mid-2011 maverick.

Still perplexed and open to help for issues.

When I noticed the above issue...and i have two iMacs side by side, the late-2009 runs high sierra (will upgrade no higher...but not an issue at this point, and doesn't mind my upgraded ram to 16gb at all) and the mid-2011 (which wanted original two 2gb factory sticks to upgrade to yosemite...and then even ran far too hot for computer to not auto-shutdown)...which runs maverick (with 16gb home maxed out ram by me long ago), I also noticed the additional two problems on Thursday 17 January 2019 :

1) my favorites/bookmarks bar had been wiped clean to factory "appearance", and

2) the finder pane to the left that displays folders and locations...had been restored to factory "appearance". but opening "all my files" folder, showed me all my documents and pictures were still on the imac, just wiped clean from my quick view pane.

3) every time I close safari, it will not reopen last window with all tabs. it opens a new one/two tab window...the latter of which includes a gmail tab that will not open gmail.

So, I have not expended the energy to RE-drag and drop a) bookmarks, and b) files and folders into my finder window quick view pane to the left, but i suppose i eventually will.

This is inconvenient for my newest, least exercised, higher/better/faster "hardware" mid-2011-imac which is running mavericks,...while my older late-2009-imac is running high sierra and performing at a more sophisticated "software" level.

This is all very interesting and perplexing.

I went all-apple in 2006, 2007, or 2008, so i am not new to apple and imac idiosyncrasies.

Thank you in advance to anyone, anyone, bueller,...
