Move Files from G3 (Os X9.1) to Mac Pro (10.13) via LAN

I want to move files from a G3 1991 beige Mac to a 2010 Mac Pro; but I have not been successful using the connect to server (command K shortcut).

I have a program disk which reads data files from a CD ROM that was marked when G3 beige computers was being manufactured and sold. The disk contains important data that cannot be read by OS X computer.

I have a network composed of the 1991 G3 (9.1), 2010 Mac Pro (10.13), 2008 Mac Pro (10.12), and 2005 G5 (10.4).

The G5 can be switched to the classic environment.

All computers are networked to an Apple 2011 Air Port (A1408) router via cables. I can connect between all of the computers except the G3.

The computers all boot, can run programs, and write files; all of the computers except the G3 can access to the internet.

The computers have sequential ip addresses on the LAN. For example purposes, the ip are listed as X where X equals a digit as in xx.x.x.1, xx.x.x.2, xx.x.x.3, ...

File sharing is turned for all machines.

TCP/IP settings for the G3 are listed as:

connect via: ethernet

configure: using DHCP server

DHCP client ID: [dialog box; I do not know the value to input]

IP address: xx.x.x.4

subnet mask: 255.255.0.0

router address: xx.x.x.1

name server address: xx.x.x.1

search domains: lusfiber.net

The file sharing on the G3 activity tab are listed as:

Owner Name: aesop

owner password: xxxxxx

Computer name : aesop

IP address: xx.x.x.4

file sharing is on

URL: afp://xx.x.x.4/

programing linking is off.

The network settings for the Mac Pro are:

Ethernet 1: active; self assigned IP; [this IP addresses do not have the same sequence as G3]

Ethernet 2: active; xx.x.x.3 [this IP address falls within the same sequence as the G3]

ip address: xx.x.x.3

subnet mask: 255.255.0.0

router: xx.x.x.1

DNS server XX.X.X.1

search domains: lusfiber

advanced tab > TCP/IP

configure: using DHCP

IPv4 address: XX.x.x.3

subnet mask: 255.255.0.0

router: xx.x.x.1

configure IPv6: automatically

DHCP client id: [dialog box; I do not know if box requires a value]

When I try to connect from the Mac Pro using connect to the server (finder short command + K), I get this dialog box:

There was a problem connecting to the server "xx.x.x4)".

The version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported. Please contact your system administrator to resolve the problem.

When I try to use transmit (a ftp program downloaded form the Apple App Store), I am not certain what to list as the server, initial path, and port. I do know the user name and the password.

The most complete description of how to connect a G3 (OS 9.1) to a Mac Pro (OS 10.14) is found on CNET.com in 2010; but the explanation is mudded because the dialog boxes are the same the ones that I see on my machine. That link is here:

Please note the limitations between Mac OS 9.x and newer versions of Mac OS X:

Alternatively, you may want to have a look at these methods (also for Mac clients):

Jan Hedlund:

Thanks.

Here are two solutions that I explored using your comments.

=1= NETWORKING

I have a Mac OS 9.1 system (G3 1998) that I have networked to a 10.4 system (G5 2005).

I also have two there MAC Pros (2008 and 2010) with newer operating systems.

My original attempts were to transfer files from the G3 to the newer Mac Pros. That did not work.

However, I reviewed the excellent documentation that your provided. The table at this link (http://www.applefool.com/se30/#afpnetwork) is really good.

The table shows that I can network the1998 G3 (OS 9.1) to the 2005 G5 (10.4).

I will try to transfer using these two computers and I feel confident that I can be successful.

=2= USB EXPANSION

Additionally, I had PCI expansion USB module installed on the G3. The installation was not that hard, but the driver software settings were hard to get just right.

But with the USB working and I can now save data to a relatively fast hard drive in the form of the USB thumb drive. I have not only increased of data storage, but I can also easily move the files between computers of whatever operating system.

The USB PCI cards are hard to find. Here is a list:
