Brand new AirPods already named - why?

The brand new sealed AirPods have been my christmas present from my wife.

When I tried to connect them I found out that they where named already with Luis's AirPods.

Nothing to do with my name.

I turned them in, nobody had an answer for that. I ask for an exchange which got aproved. A week later I picked up a brand new sealed set of AirPods.

Connecting them to the iPhone 8 it again had the name Luis's AirPods#2.

Did somebody have the same experience?

Why a new product would be named if it was never used before?

Should I return them again or just rename it?

What could be the risk of rename it?
