eGPU Disconnection issues in Mojave

Hi,

I am constantly having difficulities in disconnecting my eGPU from my laptop (Macbook Pro 13 inch 2017, Mojave).

It is a Blackmagic Radeon RX580 egpu, however the issue seems to be with OSX, not the peripheral.

95% of the time when I try to disconnect via the menu bar, it will fail and the laptop screen will go to a background only whilst the external monitor connected to the GPU displays as normal.

The only way out of this is to disconnect the eGPU from the thunderbolt cable, which results in OSX apparently crashing and landing me at the login screen, so if anything was unsaved prior to this, its gone.

Any help from apple support would be much appreciated, or is this a bug that needs to be fixed? Its an issue that really needs resolving, as if you are working from a laptop and are connecting and disconnecting to an egpu daily like myself, its quite a problem.

Any solutions from the community also would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt.

This makes me think how pampered we all are (me included)...

In the old days, when we wanted to connect or disconnect, say, a SCSI drive, we had to shutdown our macs.

We did not think much about it, it was just the way things were. And it took a few minutes.

Now it only takes seconds. So, as a workaround, until this is fixed, there you have it: shutdown, unplug, start up.

It takes less than the time it took me write this ;-)

I wish it were that easy. If I were not running multiple programs mid work flow, doing this wouldn't bother me. Sometimes this is not the case, however, often it is, and it requires more than just shutting down and starting up again. It does take a few minutes for me to get back to where I started.

Sure, its only a few minutes, but it simply is frustrating when a plug and play peripheral does not operate as such.

Anyway, thank you.
