Have Siri send your current location

Frequently when I am going to meet someone for lunch (or other), I text them my current location when I'm either running late or a few minutes out. To do that now, I open a text window, hit the "info": icon in upper right and then click send my current location. I want Siri to do this without taking my eyes off the road, but Siri tells me she doesn't know how to do this. Is there a shortcut to be built or another way to accomplish this currently? I have not built any shortcuts yet so I'd have to have detailed instructions. Thanks very much. I can, BTW tel Siri to have Maps get my current location but then I'd still have to click the "share" option and that defeats the purpose. Thanks again. Using iPhone XR with latest iOS.

There are two pre-made shortcuts that may work for you. Download the Shortcuts app and tap "Gallery" search for the "Share Location" and "Running Late" shortcuts. You may need to go into the shortcut settings and add them to Siri.

Ah, thanks. Siri doesn't ask me if I'm ready to send like she would if I said, "Siri send a text to so and so." Once composed, she would ask if ready to send, but this doesn't happen with the shortcut. It just sits in the window waiting for me to manually dispatch.

I have seen a few inconsistencies with how Siri responds when running shortcuts. It is possible that this is one of them. However, if the "send message" action in your shortcut has the "show when run" option turned off, the message will automatically be sent and Siri will not ask if you want to send the message.

Also, I noticed it doesn't send the pictorial map like it would when you manually choose "send my location" from a message info window but instead sends a url to maps. They ultimately may resolve the same, but the former allows the recipient to immediately see where you are without needing to click on a url. Thanks again for your help. I'm hoping at as Siri progresses, a shortcut won't be needed and you can just say, "send brother Ken my current location" and it will happen. Cheers, and if you know why Siri isn't asking me to send, please advise.

Thanks AJ, that did indeed create the shortcut I needed, though the automation stopped short of actually sending the text. It got my location, composed the text, inserted the map image but then waited for me to hit the send button. Ideally the "script" shortcut would take the process all the way through. I'll keep playing with it to see if there is a step I forgot to invoke. If you have any ideas, please advise. Thanks much for the help.

Are you running the shortcut with Siri or from the Shortcuts App? You will be promted to hit send when running the shortcut via the app, but not Siri. Also, did you input the phone number into the shortcut? I am using the Share Location shortcut.

With Siri the process should be like this:

"Hey Siri [Siri phrase for shortcut]"

"Running your shortcut"

"Ready to send with messages?"

"Send"

"Okay. Sent using messages."
