Display Issue - Pink and Blue circles on screen

Lately every time I come back to my machine after leaving it idle (for ~30 mins or longer) I'm greeted by this lovely sight.

OS: MacOS Mojave V 10.14.1

Machine: iMac Retina 4K, 21.5in, 2017

Processor: 3.4GHz Intel Core i5

Memory: 8GB 2400 MHz DDR4

It began happening shortly after updating to Mojave and occurs daily, always after the machine has been idle for >30 minutes.

I don't think it's a software issue. It doesn't seem to matter which apps I have open - it happens regardless.

I've tried reverse image searching the attached image and searching the forums but can't find anything similar. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Thanks!

iMac Line (2012 and Later)

Hi Machiavillain,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities today! It sounds like you are seeing pink and blue circles on your iMac screen after it has been idle for a time. I know it's important to have a working display.

I'd suggest trying to isolate the issue to your user account or system-wide by testing in a new user account. See the steps here: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac. If it does occur in the new test user, that may indicate a hardware issue.

Using Apple Diagnostics may help find a hardware issue as well: How to use Apple Diagnostics on your Mac. If there is a code that comes up, you can find out what it means here: Apple Diagnostics: Reference codes.

I hope that helps.

Have a fantastic day!
