For the buy back program (for the iPhones) would it be possible to get a new device from the US while bringing in a european iPhone? More specifically from Germany? As i am travelling to the US in a couple of months, i was thinking to use the opportunity and get the new iPhone straight from its home country :)

Well, the decision is up to you, daiana612.
I think that if you go to an Apple Store in US you can make that operation.
Buying the new device, tell them you need an unlocked AND Sim free iPhone, and notify them that you'll use it in Germany.

Trade in is valid in Germany too. See this article:

It's not a good practice to buy an iPhone abroad, because of the limited warranty (valid only in the country where you bought that device).
Also, be careful about the compatibility model your buying:

I know there are limitations when buying these products from abroad, but my question was really only related to the possibility of such an exchange. There is a huge price difference between the buy back program in the two countries.
