Since one of the SIM "cards" is an eSIM, then it seems you can only use the eSIM card in countries where carriers support eSIM. So if you move between countries, and some do and some don't, can you still use eSIM? I'm assuming when you entered a country that did not support eSIM that you would then need to put the physical SIM card back in? Can't find any instructions on this topic. Right now it seems there is limited support for the eSIM standard

Answer to your question is yes.
Your AT&T plan registered to your eSIM will work. But only for the calls and texts since you can’t use data for both SIM-cards on an iPhone, in case you want a local SIM for cheaper data.
If your home carrier supports eSIM you can use the eSIM for your home account, the use the removable nanoSIM when traveling.
But yes, eSIM is quite new, so not many carriers world wide yet support it.
What is difficult about it?
If the country you are coming to supports eSIM technology, then you can get a eSIM plan from them if you are planning to use a local carrier.
If the country you are coming to doesn't support it, then you have to buy a physical nano-SIM from a carrier. If the country of your residence does support eSIM, you can use it there with an international plan, if it's available.
There are worldwide carriers like GigSky for example, that support eSIM, you can buy it wherever you are, but the prices are high. Like REALLY HIGH.
Maybe I'm really dense. My understanding is that the basic AT&T phone plan would be an eSIM, and then a physical nano-SIM would be installed in whatever country I am traveling in. But my question is, if the AT&T is on an eSIM and that country does not support eSIM, then does the AT&T line work as well as the data plan purchased with a nano-SIM.
