What is iCloud DNS Bypass

I just connected my MacBook Pro WiFi to my iPhone personal hotspot, and an app window appeared telling me I was now using iCloud DNS Bypass Server ... Little Snitch showed it wanting to connect to captiveagent, Captive Network Assistant, and identityservicesd.

Google shows iclouddnsbypass.com as a site which may damage your computer.

FWIW my iPhone has Find My iPhone enabled and it was purchased new, unlocked from Apple Store by me.

I see this issue was posted in 2016 and supposedly router-related.

iCloud DNS Bypass is a way of hacking iPhones. I have no idea how this happened on a phone that you purchased directly from Apple unless you jailbroke it. Start by restoring the phone to factory settings and do not restore your backup-->Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

Also Vodafone in Australia - only happened the once when I used my iPhone as a hotspot.

As a follow up, I've moved venues and no longer have the problem. Not a laptop or phone issue, but a location issue.

I've contacted Vodafone support thought their website regarding this issue. There's a form there.

I'll update when I hear from them.

You got a canned response. The content of the sites you linked to is not considered acceptable to Apple. It wasn't you specifically that was targeted; it was the links.

Hi,

My last message was also deleted.

After a few email exchanges with Vodafone, they weren't able to identify the issue and was told just to contact Apple, which is clearly not responsible here.

Exactly the same for me - iPhone XS on Vodafone in Australia. I believe it's something to do with Vodafone - will contact them now.
