No alphanumeric letters repeat after installing today's Mojave update (10.14.3).
Punctuation characters do.
Anyone else, please?
I do want to be able to use diacritics like à by pressing and holding. Is that perhaps no longer compatible with press and hold to repeat letters?

No. I'm saying, repeating characters did not just stop today but many years ago. I think around OSX Lion but I'm not positive. There is a terminal hack to bring back repeating characters but then press and hold will noi longer bring up the accent menu.
That's right. ('Pure') alphanumerics (a-Z) do not. Most others do.
I suppose that confirms as well that the keyboard setting (and for that matter the keyboard itself) is as it should be.

I must admit that it would be very useful to have… both :-)
I know that if I had to choose, it would be for the diacritics.
Now that I think about it, I'm sure it must have been punctuations that I was repeating (e.g. '--------------' for a 'section break' in a text document) and misremembering.

Repeating characters was replaced a number of versions ago. You can revert from the accent menu but it's one or the other.

I believe there are certain characters that will still repeat. ////////// < Forward slash for example.
It's probably possible to toggle between the settings using AppleScript and a shortcut. Outside of my knowledge base I'm afraid.
