my DNS server keeps changing

My DNS server keeps changing to 10.xx.xx.xx when it should be 192.168.1.1

I cannot access the internet when it's connected to the 10. I'm running High Sierra. this problem started shortly after I purchased my laptop. I have removed the Wi-Fi and rebooted, then re-added. Sometime sit works and is connected to the 192, but sometimes not. I cannot continue to do this and need a fix.

Also, my router changes to 10.0.1.1 or the like. I have no clue why. Please help!

Network Pref Pane, highlight Interface>Advanced button>DNS tab>little + icon.

Try putting these numbers in...

208.67.222.222

208.67.220.220

192.168.1.1

You don't need the provider to check router settings. Just log into the router's admin page. What is your router's ip address? If it is 10.xxx.xxx.xxx then your computers should be getting 10.xxx.xxx.xxx addresses. If your router's ip address is 192.xxx.xxx.xxx then your computers should be getting 192.xxx.xxx.xxx ip addresses.

No, no hotspot active. It happens on my husbands Mac as well. I'm looking into router settings with the provider. thanks

Check your router. What is its address and what is the scope of the DHCP addresses it is assigning?
